I have not used them in the freezer, but they are not air tight. There is a little vent in the top. I imagine that freezing them for any length of time would cause freezer burn.
The compartments are not real deep but are deep enough. They are very similar to a frozen dinner tray you would buy. We use them alot for transporting dinners to my parents. They are perfect! The lids can also be used to cover other plates when reheating food.

They are dishwasher safe, however, we found it better to hand wash to help with plastic lasting longer. These were used by my 92 year old father. He also microwaved meals in them but it must be at a low temperature to not harm plastic. Great plates.
I haven't had problems with staining on these plates. These are made of a strong plastic with a very slick surface, easy to clean. However, I heat cautiously. I think the heat is what breaks down the plastics on those other containers. I'd rather heat it some (like a minute or minute and a half), stir and heat again until hot. I have a tip on sealing the lid before cooking, some have had trouble with that. Lay lid on top of plate and press the center down until you hear the snap. Sometimes I then squeeze or pinch the sides to be sure. I am very happy with these plates. My mother is 94 and doesn't eat a lot at a time so these are perfect.

If you have meat, potatoes and a veggie, it stays well. If there is liquid that would go into other sections. I like them so much I'm considering getting another set!
About 8 inches across. Sturdy, but not liquid tight. I've reheated in them too without incident. I mostly use them to make simple lunches of salad, crackers, fruit. I cover and place on picnic table when camping as I wait for the family to wash up
