Will bagels or thick waffles toast?

Yes bagels and frozen waffles toast well in this toaster. The slots are plenty wide for this. And also what I like is the fact that the items go down far enough into the toaster that the entire time gets toasted. I have had toasters where after toasting once I had to reinsert the item upside down for a second toasting because the top of the item didn't fit down far enough in the toaster for the top to get toasted.

Yes it does toast muffins and bread on both sides. Bagels are toasted only on the cut side which is the way you want so the outer side stays soft.
