Light does work all the time.
from Louisville, Ky
Comments about Light Up Magnifier:
I bought this to work with my stamp collection, but the light doesn't work most of the time and there is no way to open it up to fix problem, I know what is wrong and could fix it if I could get into battery pack. But no such luck. I can't recommend this.
Bottom LineNo, I would not recommend this to a friend

Getting light to work is problematic
This was a disappointing purchase. It would not light up or if it did it would quickly go off. If pulled hard to open and the magnifier actually pulled out of the case.
I would buy this product again and again

It is just perfect for checking out very small objects at work. It is an excellent price and a handy size but is sometimes hard to slide open.

The light on this did not work. I sent a letter to Miles Kimball and have not heard a word back from them. It is not worth sending it back for replacement as it would cost more than it's worth to ship it.
Great for low vision readers

This is so awesome. I read a review complaining it used 4 batteries, but I wouldn't know. After I read it I ordered 4 more and that's way cheaper than ordering 4 odd sized batteries. My 87 year old going blind mother can now focus better on the newspaper. She doesn't need the light much at this point, but it's there if she needs it. She is enjoying reading something in the newspaper besides the headlines. The light is so much brighter than the more expensive magnifying lights I'd purchased locally and had to return. This is a great buy!
It does the job

Small and compact. Does the job of providing light in dim areas to read small print.
Does the job
Will use for many small print things I want to read in dim light.

I wrote another review on this but after noticing someone listed a Con because it uses 4 batteries I wanted to point out that at the price it is you can afford to order more than one and throw it away if it's no good to you unlit! I ordered more just now. I don't need the light for everything but the light sure is nice for low vision people.

More helpful than all the others
This gift is for my mother who has ARMD and floaters. I was worried her crippled hands couldn't handle opening it, but I discovered you give it an extra tug to use the light, so once you start to close it the light goes off and she can simply slide the lens in almost all the way. It's great it doesn't have to be completely closed. I've tried so many different types of light weight magnifiers with and without a light and this inexpensive one is the best of the bunch! Would be great to read small engraving or marks on jewelry too!
